Lee's mother was pregnant with Lee before she and his father married so it's possible the marriage was a loveless one. Lee's father was in the military so often away and in general neglected Lee and his younger brother Zeph. Yet when present their father drilled into them the axiom that a man wasn't a man until he wore the wings of a fighter pilot. Lee's mother often ignored her boys preferring to take her solace in the bottle. His parents finally divorced when Lee was in his early teens and his mother's decent into even more severe alcoholism left Lee in charge of the household and a shield for his brother. He definitely suffered emotional if not physical abuse during this period. He and Zeph had to survive though. In consequence Lee became an excellent cook. He also became good at protecting others and hiding when he was hurting.

After the divorce he did still have some contact with his father and during a visit to Philadelphia's Stadium for the Army-Navy game when Lee was 13 he met Oliva Hunt and they shared their first kiss. Just after his seventeenth birthday Lee entered Annapolis. He he was probably a victim both of expectation to match the performance of his war hero father and charges of success due to nepotism. Lee still did well enough at the Naval Academy, earning a BS in Aerospace Engineering, to be selected for the coveted Naval Aviation community.

During initial pilot training Lee soon discovered he was a natural pilot. He began to enjoy the challenge of flight, pushing the envelop often enough to finally get called on the carpet for his audacity. That experience scared him, as he didn't want to loose the one thing in his life that was proving enjoyable. He buckled down ending up finishing initial flight training with top evaluations. This earned him a seat in the much sought after Tailhook Intermediate and Advanced programs designed to produce fighter pilots. The one year of fighter training was the most intense period Lee had ever experienced in his life but he persevered finishing at the top of his class and earning his coveted Wings of Gold. It was here he also earned his callsign Blame. While obviously a play on his middle name it also came as a result of a drunken incident Lee would rather forget and he's close-mouthed whenever anyone asks him its origins. Advanced fighter training was quickly followed by nine months at VFA-106 in Norfolk for type training where he finally got his hands on the aircraft he would be flying for his operational assignments an F/A-18. With the skills learned at Tailhook he was completely able to let loose and enjoy in the air despite the need for some serious study on the ground. Lee once again excelled at it all.

It was at that juncture that tragedy struck Lee's life. Zeph had followed Lee into the Academy determined not only to also measure up to their father's standard of excellence but follow in his adored big brother's footsteps. Lee followed Zeph's initial training closely and was disappointed to hear that Zeph's skills did not foretell the ability to match his father or older brother's accomplishments. Becoming concerned after talking with his brother and trying to convince him to accept the inevitable Lee was shocked to find that his father had managed to put pressure on the training establishment. Zeph was allowed to commence fighter training despite an apparent lack of aptitude. Lee then argued with his father on his younger brother's suitability for service as a pilot but he lost the argument. This lead to a rift between Lee and his father that has never been healed as subsequent events would scar Lee for the rest of his life. Lee's assessment of Zeph's unsuitability as a pilot was borne out when Zeph died in a fiery training accident that was attributed to pilot error. Bereft at the loss of his brother and overwhelmed with his own guilt at being the role model Zeph had followed, Lee barely made it through the funeral. At his mother's home after he accused his father of killing Zeph. The two had a bitter invective filled argument and this led to their total estrangement.

With his grief almost threatening to overwhelm him Lee reported to his first F/A-18 Squadron, VFA-87 the Golden Warriors, aboard the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75). Determined to survive he used the intensity of his emotions as a wall. He was near perfect in the air, it was his one refuge. His social life however was non-existent in stark opposition to the normal personality of a fighter pilot. When his squadron mates did manage to drag him out he was distant which was interpreted as shyness. While shyness is a small component of his personality, his distance was more a facade that allowed him to deal with his potentially paralyzing grief. Sometime during the squadron's first deployment his mates caught him idly browsing an internet dating site. Lee happened to be on the entry from Dylan Erikson He eventually contacted her and this lead to the relationship that culminated in their marriage. Having distinguished himself during his squadron tour Lee earned a berth at the Navy's elite Top Gun, Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor (SFTI) School. In an unusual move after that training he was not sent to a normal instructor's billet, which would have put him back in Norfolk at least closer to Dylan, but joined the Navy's Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Team.

Being a Blue he had the time of his life. Being based in California and Florida helped put the final nail in his marriage's coffin. In retrospect, he'd freely admit to everybody, that his duty assignments, schedule and continuing grief hadn't made things easy. Courtship and married life conducted over the internet and on weekends, when he could fly into DC from Norfolk, Top Gun, and Blue Angels east coat airshows, hadn't been the ideal situation. That situation was made even more difficult by Lee's Blue's weekends being Monday and Tuesday a work schedule that Dylan's could not match. Their lack of any time together combined with his inability to share through his continuing grief and guilt about Zeph and the depression it caused didn't help either.

Besides the actual flying the only other bright spot during this period was that his prowess at it earned him a promotion to LCDR a year below the zone. For the next two years of his Blue Angels' tour and during his subsequent three year second squadron tour with the Norfolk based VFA-105 Gunslingers that started in 2005 he still found himself flying back to DC if for nothing else but the cosmopolitan nightlife the city offered. His relationship with Laurel Taft started from a chance meeting shortly after his divorce in 2003 but she was flighty and he remained emotionally insecure so they parted amicably. After his return to Norfolk he met Audra Michaels on another foray to DC. The nomadic nature of his life though, combined with her grief over the death of her one true love, resulted in them deciding to end the romantic relationship in 2007. What instead emerged was an almost sibling relationship with Lee eventually seeing Audra as the big sister he never had.

At that point in his life he was still enjoying flying and was shocked and somewhat angered when his Department Head tour with the VFA-105 Gunslingers was cut short. He ended up in the Strategy and Policy course at Naval War College in Newport, RI. He eventually wrote an article fighter tactics and employment, which was published in the school's journal. It drew the attention of the new Director, Air Warfare Division and upon Lee's graduation in July 2008 he found himself assigned as the Admiral's assistant for F/A-18 technical matters. There he was also given the collateral duty of heading the volunteer program that had the people in his command assisting at the DC school where Laurel teaches. He was able to happily renew their acquaintance on a semi-professional basis. Being back in DC also allowed him to renew his close quasi-familial relationship with Audra. It's ironically when he is on the Internet again, in late January 2009, that his life changes in still another way when he meets the possible girl of his dreams, Laeriel Asher

After an amusing online match of wits where she suggests the possibility of his being an axe murderer the two finally agree to meet in February 2009 and hit it off immediately. In April he's severely injured in an attempt on his life and she rushes from a vacation to his bedside. Over the next several months he makes what appears to be a full recovery and she's often staying with him for extended periods in the Watergate apartment of his best friend Telly's parents. It's there in June he stuns her by revealing he won't engage in pre-marital sex. In August his hosts, whom he pretty much considers as his parents, returned to DC and needed their apartment back. Despite his position on sex Laera and Lee felt enough of a connection that they purchased a house together. By the beginning of October she'd moved in and on October 6th, after an incident that is upsetting for both of them, he proposed with his grandmother's ring and she accepted.

They decide on an April 10, 2010 wedding and are busily engaged in wedding planning when rumblings of something Lee has been hearing for months become reality. Naval Air Station South Weymouth, MA is going to be reactivated. This time it will host not the lumbering P-3s of its history but a brand new TACAIR wing. Lee finds he's once again going to be short toured and about to be part of the new base CO's staff. Apparently having their wedding in DC is going to be more interesting than they thought.
